Although he has only been sent off once in his career, the aggresive holding midfielder is never far from controversy. The great Dane has been spat at by Francesco Totti in the 2004 European Championships and also had run-ins with Totti’s Italian team mate Gennaro Gattuso, but it is this incident which is probably his highest profile misdemeanor. The ‘Got, got, got, need!’ project originally included just four Chelsea players who were bound for South Africa with their respective national teams. After painstakingly painting the Chelsea foursome several months ago they have now, spookily, one by one, suffered injuries which will keep them from the World Cup finals. The first to be ruled out was the German captain Michael Ballack with this ankle injury sustained in the FA Cup Final, then came Michael Essien of Ghana who failed to recover from a knee injury. Yesterday brought news that the Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba looks likely to miss out due to an elbow injury (though it is not definite yet) and today comes the sad news that Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel will also not take part, early reports put this down to a knee injury.
I predict a wave of commissions from Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool supporters for the Chelsea player they fear/dislike most, though if that happens to be Lampard, Terry or one of the Coles, please wait for the start of the new Premiership season.

After being raised in Rotterdam by artistic parents (his mother was a painter and his father a sculptor), Robin was never likely to become a center-half cart horse or a midfield water carrier. Fanis, as he is known in his home country, topped the scoring charts in the European qualification zone – beating the likes of Wayne Rooney, David Villa and Miroslav Klose. The story could have been completely different however had his father not talked him out of following his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. A quick post to say that the GGGN collection has gone up for one night only as a backdrop to the England Fans Forum. Interviews with authors, directors, and dignitaries from South Africa took place in front of the collection and are to be shown on SABC2 in South Africa tomorrow. Oh, and as I’m currently inundated with requests there may be a short wait before the next player gets posted so keep checking back.

Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite would be a bit of a mouthful for any commentator, luckily today’s player also goes by the much shorter name of Kaká. The Real Madrid midfield magician was one of many GGGN! stars to feature in the infamous Vanity Fair underwear shoot (others included Ronaldo, Drogba, Donovan and Eto’o) however the Brazilian was the only player who kept his jeans on.
